About
Spotify already has a built-in friend activity tab in their desktop app; but for many, this feature is not well implemented and unwieldy to use. This is why SpotAlong was created- to have an intuitive platform for friends to listen along to each other, without needing premium. Instead of needing to mess around with Facebook or Discord or any other third party accounts, with SpotAlong, friends can just download the app, add each other with their respective friend codes, and start listening along.
Development
SpotAlong has been in active development since October 2020, with 1000+ hours of development time and 16000+ lines of code written. SpotAlong has also directly created an open source project,
spotify-free-api-player, which allows users to change their playback state using the playback controller and sync their Spotify state to their friends' when listening along.
In the near future, group listening sessions will gain more support through features like song requests and vote skips, further enhancing the listening along experience beyond any other competitor - all without needing premium.

Friend Statuses
SpotAlong makes it easy to view what your friends are listening to in various places throughout the app. It also displays the most recent song they were listening to (when they had SpotAlong open).
Listening Privacy
SpotAlong only displays your status when you have SpotAlong open. Additionally, SpotAlong enables you to hide your listening status to friends at the click of a button.
Playback Controller
SpotAlong has a built-in playback controller that allows you to control Spotify, even on multiple devices.*

Personalization
Customize SpotAlong with an accent color of your choice, which gets reflected everywhere in the app. Additionally, you have the option to change various other settings, such as the window transparency.
Listening to Friends
At the click of a button, SpotAlong allows you to listen to what your friends are listening to, and automatically sync your playback state to theirs.
